Effects of Technology on Classrooms and Students

The article says that when students are using technology they are active rather than passive. They are making choices on how to generate, obtain, manipulate or display information. A second benefit that the author of the site sees is an increased motivation in students. A greater level of tech based accomplishment is displayed by students, who in the past have shown much less initiative while working with more conventional methods. Thirdly, students like the immediate results(gratification?) they get when using technology. Students are very aware of the value placed on technology in our society. When they are successful in this arena, their self-esteem grows by leaps and bounds. Another benefit that's being recognized are the students' increased inclination to work cooperatively and collaboratively. Teachers notice a much more positive atmosphere because kids are driven to assist each other so much more than they would have when just using conventional techniques. So I feel that when you combine today's students excitement about using the new technology with the powerful application possibilities towards supplementing our various Instructional Strategies, we have a win-win situation.
